The bravado that Dustin Pedroia once carried with him as frequently as his bat and glove has been replaced by a cautious optimism. Call the 35-year-old Pedroia wiser and more realistic, which is to be expected after all he has gone through the last year and a half to come back from the toughest injury he has ever had.

Xander Bogaerts has been under the employ of the franchise since Aug. 23, 2009, when he signed as an international free agent out of Aruba at the age of 16. He went from a boy to a man with the Red Sox, and from a prospect to a star who will soon collect his second World Series ring. It's hard for him to picture putting on another uniform.

Life couldn't be much better for Mookie Betts these days. His team won the World Series last October. Betts won the American League MVP Award that eluded him two years ago. The right fielder won yet another Gold Glove Award -- his third in a row. Betts experienced the joy of his first child being born (a daughter named Kynlee Ivory). Oh, and he won another PBA bowling tournament on Super Bowl Sunday.

The 30 prospects below all are getting very long looks this spring with an eye toward breaking camp with the parent club. Even if they start the year in the Minors, they all should get the chance to contribute at some point in the very near future.

Ace Chris Sale arrived with the Red Sox a couple of years ago thirsting for the chance to pitch in the playoffs and win a World Series title. As he chased those things, he fell in love with the sports passion of Boston and fit in seamlessly with his new organization.
